AE

Samsung Dryer

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

AE is a communication fault between the main control board and another component — typically the user display, the motor controller, or the smart Wi-Fi module.
Power-cycle once.
If AE returns, the issue is hardware — service-tech repair needed.
Most AE fixes are connector reseats (free once tech is on site) or single-board replacements (150–300 USD).

Affected Models

  • Samsung DV45
  • Samsung DV56
  • Samsung DV90
  • Samsung DVE series
  • Samsung DVG series

Common Causes

  • Loose ribbon cable between main board and display
  • Communication wire to motor controller damaged
  • Power surge corrupted a board's communication chip
  • Moisture damage on a board
  • Main board itself failed

How to Fix It

  1. Power-cycle the dryer.

    Press Power off.
Unplug the dryer for 10 minutes.
    Plug back in.
Wait for the display to fully boot.
If AE doesn't return within an hour of normal operation, the cycle was successful — monitor for recurrence.

  2. Check the display.

    Look at the front display.
Any flickering, dim segments, or unusual character display?
If the display itself looks unhealthy, the user interface board is the failing component.
    That's typically a 100–200 USD part.
    Note for the technician.

  3. Note recent power events.

Has there been a thunderstorm, brief outage, or breaker trip recently?
    Power surges damage communication chips.
If timing matches, surge damage is the likely cause.
Mention to the technician — speeds diagnosis.

  4. Don't open the dryer yourself.

Communication boards are inside the cabinet, behind sealed access panels.
Most have boards in the back of the unit.
Service-tech territory — accessing them requires removing covers and working with mains-powered components.

  5. Schedule Samsung service.

    Provide model and serial numbers.
Most AE fixes are connector reseats (free) or display board replacement (50–150 USD).
Worst case is main board replacement (200–400 USD).
    Diagnostic visit determines which.
    Free under warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the dryer run with AE showing?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no — depends on which subsystem lost comms.
If it's just the smart Wi-Fi module, the dryer runs normally; you just lose remote control.
If it's the motor controller, the dryer stops entirely.
Test by trying to start a cycle — that tells you the impact.

Can a surge protector prevent AE?

Yes — for surge-related AE events, an inline surge protector at the dryer's outlet protects the boards from voltage spikes.
Cost: 20–40 USD.
Won't help with end-of-life component failures, but for storm-prone areas it's worth installing.
