bC

Samsung Dryer

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

bC means a button on the control panel is reading as continuously pressed.
The dryer refuses to start because it can't tell what command is intended.
Wipe the control panel with a damp soft cloth, dry completely, and try again.
Most bC events clear with cleaning.
If bC persists, the membrane needs replacement (50–150 USD parts plus labor).

Affected Models

  • Samsung DV45
  • Samsung DV56
  • Samsung DV90
  • Samsung DVE series
  • Samsung DVG series

Common Causes

  • Lint or laundry residue on the panel
  • Spilled liquid (detergent, fabric softener)
  • Membrane damaged by harsh cleaners
  • Button stuck mechanically pressed in
  • Membrane internally failed after years of use

How to Fix It

  1. Power off the dryer.

    Unplug the dryer.
Wait a minute before working on the panel.
Don't want buttons activating while cleaning.

  2. Wipe the panel with a damp cloth.

Use a soft cloth slightly damp with water and a tiny bit of mild dish soap.
Wipe the entire panel, especially the edges of buttons.
Don't spray cleaner directly on the panel — moisture seeping under the membrane causes long-term damage.

  3. Try each button individually.

Once the panel is dry, press each button.
    Watch and listen for response.
If one feels mushy, sticks, or doesn't release, that's the cause.
Press it firmly several times to free it — sometimes a stuck button frees with repeated activation.

  4. Restore power and test.

    Plug back in.
    The panel should boot normally.
    Try selecting a cycle.
If bC doesn't return, you've fixed it.
If bC reappears, the membrane has internal damage — service required.

  5. Schedule service for membrane replacement.

Most Samsung-authorized centers can replace the membrane in one visit.
Parts run 50–150 USD depending on model.
Total repair 200–300 USD with labor.
For dryers under 7 years, repair is cost-effective.
For older units, weigh against full replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if liquid got into the panel?

Sometimes leaving the dryer off for 24 hours with the panel facing up clears the issue temporarily.
The membrane often suffers permanent damage from moisture though — bC may return.
To prevent: never spray cleaners on the panel; wipe with a damp cloth, not a wet one.

Can lint cause bC?

Indirectly, yes — lint and dust can accumulate around the buttons over months.
Combined with humidity from laundry, it can hold buttons partly depressed.
Regular wiping prevents this.
If you've never cleaned the panel and bC appears, that's likely the cause.
