F01
Whirlpool Dryer
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Whirlpool dryer F01 error means the main electronic control board has detected a fault and cannot operate normally. A power reset sometimes clears a temporary glitch — if F01 returns, the control board needs replacing.
Affected Models
- Whirlpool Electric Dryer
- Whirlpool Gas Dryer
- Whirlpool Cabrio Dryer
- Whirlpool WED Series
Common Causes
- Failed main control board (MCU)
- Power surge damaging the board
- Moisture or heat exposure inside the control panel
- Loose wiring harness connection to the control board
- Software fault on the control board (sometimes cleared by reset)
How to Fix It
-
Perform a power reset.
Unplug the dryer from the wall and wait 10 full minutes. Reconnect power and try running a cycle. A soft fault sometimes clears after the board fully loses and regains power.
-
Check all wiring connections to the control board.
Unplug the dryer and remove the control panel cover. Inspect the wiring harness connectors on the control board — push each connector firmly to ensure it is fully seated. A loose connector can cause communication faults that trigger F01.
-
Inspect the control board for visible damage.
Look for burn marks, cracked solder joints, swollen capacitors, or scorch marks on the board. Any visible damage confirms the board has failed and must be replaced.
-
Replace the main control board.
Order the correct board for your model number (found on the label inside the door opening). Replacement boards cost $80–$200. Take a photo of all wiring connections before disconnecting anything.
