E2
Duraflame Electric Fireplace
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
E2 on a Duraflame electric fireplace indicates a temperature sensor fault — the sensor that monitors heater temperature is reading bad data.
The unit disables heating to prevent damage but flame effect may still work.
Power off at the wall switch, wait 5 minutes, restart.
If E2 persists, the sensor needs replacement — a service-tech repair, typically 50-150 USD.
Affected Models
- Duraflame DFI-5010
- Duraflame DFI-7148
- Duraflame Mantel series
- Duraflame Stove series
Common Causes
- Temperature sensor failed (open or shorted)
- Sensor wire disconnected from controller
- Connector loose at the controller board
- Recent surge damaged sensor input
- Heat-cycle wear after years of use
How to Fix It
-
Power off at the wall switch.
Turn the fireplace off via its power switch (or unplug if no switch).
Wait 5 minutes for the controller to fully reset and any retained heat to dissipate.
This longer wait ensures the controller fully resets state. -
Restart and check.
Plug back in or restore power.
The unit should boot to standby.
Try heating mode — does E2 return immediately, or does the unit run briefly first?
If E2 returns immediately, sensor is fully failed.
If after some operation, sensor is intermittent. -
Use flame effect only as workaround.
Most Duraflame units allow flame effect to run independently of the heater.
If E2 disables only heating, you can still enjoy the visual flame effect.
Skip the heater button; just use the on/off and flame settings.
Useful as a temporary workaround. -
Don't disassemble the unit.
The temperature sensor is inside the heater assembly behind the front panel.
Disassembly risks electrical damage and can void warranty.
This is service-tech work — don't attempt DIY. -
Contact Duraflame support or service tech.
Duraflame customer service: 800-272-7012.
For warranty repair (1-year typical), they may ship a replacement unit.
Out of warranty: a local appliance repair tech can replace the sensor — 50-150 USD parts plus 1-2 hours labor.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my fireplace still display flames?
Most likely yes — the flame effect uses LED lighting and a small motor for the rotation effect.
This is independent of the heater system.
You can use the visual flame effect even with E2 active.
Just no actual heat output.
Is E2 covered by warranty?
Duraflame's standard warranty is 1 year on parts and labor for most components.
If your unit is under 1 year old and showing E2, contact Duraflame support immediately for warranty service.
Out of warranty: repair costs 50-150 USD typical, but for entry-level models that approaches the price of a new fireplace.
