PC0001
Peloton Exercise Bike
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
PC0001 means the resistance sensor — the one that measures how hard the magnetic brake is set — is reading values outside its expected range.
Most cases clear with a recalibration: turn the resistance knob fully clockwise (max), then fully counterclockwise (min), repeat a few times, and reboot.
If PC0001 persists, the sensor or the resistance assembly needs service.
Affected Models
- Peloton Bike
- Peloton Bike+
Common Causes
- Resistance sensor calibration drifted out of range (most common)
- Magnet inside the resistance mechanism shifted from heavy use
- Sensor wiring loose at the resistance assembly
- Sensor itself failed
- Recent firmware update that reset calibration
How to Fix It
-
Turn the resistance knob through full range.
Twist the knob clockwise as far as it goes (maximum resistance), then fully counterclockwise (minimum).
Repeat this five or six times slowly.
The sensor reads each extreme and recalibrates against fresh max and min values. -
Power-cycle the screen.
Hold the power button on the back of the screen for 10 seconds.
Wait 30 seconds, then power back on.
The new calibration values should load on the next boot.
PC0001 often clears at this point. -
Check the resistance knob mounting.
If the knob feels wobbly or the resistance feels uneven through the range, the magnet inside has shifted.
That's beyond DIY repair on a Peloton — book service.
A wobbly knob can also damage the sensor over time. -
Book Peloton service if PC0001 persists.
Peloton handles resistance assembly repair through their service network.
Within the first year, repair is free under warranty.
After that, expect $150–$300 for sensor replacement, more if the full resistance assembly needs replacing. -
Don't keep riding through PC0001.
The resistance sensor controls power output measurement.
Riding with PC0001 active means your output numbers — watts, calories — are wrong, which throws off your workout data and any leaderboard standings.
Wait for the fix before resuming.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will Peloton recover my output data after PC0001 is fixed?
Output data during a PC0001 ride is unreliable and Peloton's servers may flag it.
Workouts started after the fix record normally.
If you've been riding with PC0001 for a while, those rides may not contribute accurately to your training records.
Why does PC0001 happen mostly after firmware updates?
Firmware updates sometimes reset stored calibration values to defaults.
If your bike's actual resistance range doesn't match those defaults — which is common after years of use — the sensor reads out-of-range and PC0001 fires.
The calibration sweep through the full knob range usually fixes it.
