Output Not Tracking
Peloton Fitness Equipment
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Peloton output not tracking means the power sensor is not reading your effort. The most common cause is the magnetic resistance sensor or a loose cable. Restart the bike and run a sensor test from the Settings menu.
Affected Models
- Peloton Bike
- Peloton Bike+
Common Causes
- Magnetic resistance sensor misaligned or disconnected
- Touchscreen software bug causing output to read zero
- Resistance knob not turning the magnetic system (resistance not changing)
- Cadence sensor issue — no cadence = no output calculation
- Factory calibration drifted after heavy use
How to Fix It
-
Restart the Peloton touchscreen.
Hold the power button on the back of the touchscreen for 5 seconds and tap Restart. A software restart fixes many false-zero output issues.
-
Test cadence tracking — pedal at a steady pace and check the cadence display.
Output is calculated from cadence × resistance. If cadence also reads zero, the cadence sensor has the problem. Spin freely at 80–90 RPM — you should see cadence numbers update in real time.
-
Run a diagnostics check from the hidden menu.
Tap the top-left corner of the screen 8 times quickly to open the diagnostics menu. Navigate to Sensors and check the cadence and resistance sensor readings.
-
Check if resistance is actually changing when you turn the knob.
Turn the resistance knob and feel if pedaling gets harder. If resistance does not change at all, the magnetic system may have failed — contact Peloton support.
-
Request a calibration from Peloton support.
Over time, Peloton Bike power output can drift from the factory calibration. Peloton support can push a remote calibration update or arrange a technician visit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Peloton output the same as real-world watts?
Peloton output is measured in watts but uses their own calibration. It is not directly comparable to road cycling power meters. However, it is consistent across all Peloton Bikes, which is what matters for leaderboard comparisons.
My output is lower than it used to be — is the bike broken?
Peloton output can drift over time. If your real effort feels the same but output reads lower, request a calibration check from Peloton support.
