WiFi Not Connecting

Peloton Fitness Equipment

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Peloton not connecting to Wi-Fi is most often a 5 GHz band issue, a wrong password, or the router too far away. Peloton works best on 2.4 GHz. Forget the network on the touchscreen and reconnect.

Affected Models

  • Peloton Bike
  • Peloton Bike+
  • Peloton Tread
  • Peloton Row

Common Causes

  • Connecting to 5 GHz band — Peloton can struggle on 5 GHz
  • Wrong Wi-Fi password stored on the Peloton
  • Router too far or signal too weak
  • Router using WPA3 security — some Peloton models prefer WPA2
  • Firmware update pending that requires Wi-Fi to download

How to Fix It

  1. Forget the Wi-Fi network and reconnect from scratch.

On the Peloton touchscreen: Settings → Wi-Fi → tap the network name → Forget. Then reconnect: tap the network, enter your password carefully, and connect.

  2. Try connecting to the 2.4 GHz band specifically.

If your router has separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks listed, choose the 2.4 GHz one. Log into your router admin panel to split the bands if they share the same name.

  3. Restart the Peloton touchscreen.

Hold the power button on the touchscreen for 5 seconds and select Restart (not Power Off). A restart clears the network stack and often fixes connection issues.

  4. Move the router closer or use a Wi-Fi extender.

Peloton equipment is often in a basement or garage where Wi-Fi signal is weak. A dedicated 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi extender near the Peloton is a permanent fix.

  5. Check if the router's MAC address filtering is blocking the Peloton.

If your router has MAC filtering enabled, the Peloton's MAC address must be added to the allow list. Find the MAC address under Peloton Settings → Wi-Fi → Network Info.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Peloton without Wi-Fi?

Limited use only. Without Wi-Fi you can do Just Ride, Just Run, or Just Row (unguided free workouts). Live classes, on-demand classes, and leaderboards all require an active internet connection.

Does Peloton support Ethernet (wired connection)?

Peloton Bike, Bike+, and Tread do not have Ethernet ports. Wi-Fi is the only connection method.
