Connection Lost
Oticon Hearing Aid
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Connection Lost in the Oticon Companion app means the app can no longer communicate with your hearing aids over Bluetooth. Your aids still amplify sound normally at the last used settings — only the app's remote control functions are unavailable. Closing and reopening the app usually restores the link.
Affected Models
- Oticon Real
- Oticon More
- Oticon Intent
- Oticon Own
- Oticon Zircon
Common Causes
- Phone moved out of Bluetooth range
- Hearing aid battery depleted and aid has switched off
- Phone Bluetooth stack dropped the connection after inactivity
- Another device paired to the same aids is taking the connection
- App data has stalled and needs a refresh
How to Fix It
-
Close and reopen the Oticon Companion app
Force-close the Companion app on your phone (swipe up in the app switcher or use the task manager on Android). Relaunch the app — it will attempt to reconnect to the aids automatically. This resolves most temporary connection drops within seconds.
-
Move the phone closer to the hearing aids
Oticon hearing aids use Bluetooth Low Energy, which provides a reliable link up to about 10 metres in open space. Walls, the body, and other electronics can reduce this. Moving the phone within 3 metres usually re-establishes the connection.
-
Toggle Bluetooth on your phone
Open Settings > Bluetooth and turn it off, wait 5 seconds, then turn it on again. This resets the Bluetooth radio on your phone and clears any stalled connection state without removing the hearing aid pairing.
-
Check the hearing aid battery
If the battery in a battery-powered aid has run down, the aid will switch off and show as disconnected in the app. Replace the battery or, for rechargeable aids, place them in the SmartCharger. The app will reconnect once the aids restart.
-
Restart the hearing aids
For battery-powered aids: open and fully close the battery door on each aid to cycle power. For rechargeable aids: open the SmartCharger lid, wait 5 seconds, then close it. The aids will restart and the Companion app should detect them within 15–20 seconds.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Oticon Companion app lose connection every time I go to another room?
This usually means the Bluetooth signal is being blocked by walls or other obstacles more than expected. Try keeping the phone in the same room and within 5 metres of your aids. If the problem persists in your home, the aids may have a lower-than-normal Bluetooth output — have your audiologist check signal strength during your next visit.
Will reconnecting the Companion app reset my hearing aid programs?
No. All your hearing programs, volume levels, and custom settings are stored inside the hearing aid itself. Reconnecting the app only re-establishes the Bluetooth link — it does not alter any sound settings.
