Connection Lost

Phonak Hearing Aid

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Connection Lost in the myPhonak app means the Bluetooth link between your phone and hearing aids has been interrupted. The aids continue to amplify sound normally — only the app remote control function is affected. Reopening the app or moving the phone closer usually restores the connection.

Affected Models

  • Phonak Audeo Lumity
  • Phonak Audeo Paradise
  • Phonak Audeo Marvel
  • Phonak Bolero
  • Phonak Naida

Common Causes

  • Phone moved beyond Bluetooth range (approximately 10 metres)
  • Another Bluetooth device took priority and disconnected the aids from the phone
  • Phone Bluetooth stack has dropped the link after a period of inactivity
  • Hearing aid battery ran low and the aid shut off
  • Phone operating system updated overnight and reset Bluetooth connections

How to Fix It

  1. Close and reopen the myPhonak app

Force-close myPhonak (swipe it away in the app switcher on iOS or Android), then relaunch it. The app will automatically attempt to reconnect to the aids within a few seconds. This resolves most transient connection drops.

  2. Move the phone closer to the aids

Phonak hearing aids maintain a Bluetooth link up to about 10 metres in open space, but walls, furniture, and your own body can reduce this to 3–5 metres. Move the phone into the same room and within arm's reach to allow the connection to re-establish.

  3. Toggle Bluetooth off and back on

On your phone, open Settings > Bluetooth and turn the toggle off, wait 5 seconds, then turn it back on. This resets the Bluetooth radio and often clears connection drops caused by the phone's software stack stalling.

  4. Check the hearing aid battery level

If the aids shut off due to a depleted battery, the connection will show as lost in the app. Open the battery door and insert a fresh zinc-air cell, or place rechargeable aids in the charger, then reopen myPhonak.

  5. Forget and re-pair if the issue recurs daily

If connection drops happen every day, the Bluetooth pairing may be corrupted. In your phone Settings > Bluetooth, forget the Phonak aids, then use the myPhonak app to pair them fresh. This usually resolves persistent recurring disconnections.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do my Phonak aids still amplify sound when connection is lost?

Yes. The hearing aids work independently of the myPhonak app. Connection Lost only affects the app's ability to adjust volume, change programs, or show battery status remotely. Your aids continue to amplify at the last used settings.

Can a phone case block the Phonak Bluetooth connection?

Metal phone cases or thick rubber cases can slightly reduce Bluetooth signal strength, but they rarely cause outright connection loss on their own. If you suspect the case, try removing it temporarily. Signal issues are more commonly caused by distance or interference from other devices.
