4 Beeps
Phonak Hearing Aid
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Four short beeps from a Phonak hearing aid is the low battery warning signal used on zinc-air battery models. It means the battery has roughly 1–4 hours of life remaining depending on your usage pattern. Replace the battery as soon as convenient.
Affected Models
- Phonak Audeo B
- Phonak Audeo M
- Phonak Bolero B
- Phonak Bolero M
- Phonak Naida
- Phonak Sky
Common Causes
- Zinc-air battery (size 312, 13, 10, or 675) has depleted to the low threshold
- Battery has been in use for its typical 5–7 day lifespan
- Heavy streaming (phone calls, TV connector) has accelerated battery drain
How to Fix It
-
Replace the zinc-air battery
Open the battery door completely, remove the depleted cell, and insert a fresh zinc-air battery of the correct size. The colour of the tab on the battery matches the coloured sticker inside the battery door: brown = 312, orange = 13, yellow = 10, blue = 675.
-
Let the new battery breathe for 60 seconds
After removing the adhesive tab from the new battery, wait 60 seconds before placing it in the aid. Zinc-air batteries are activated by oxygen and need a short exposure to air to reach full capacity. Inserting immediately can reduce battery life.
-
Check your streaming habits
Streaming audio from a phone, TV Connector, or Roger microphone significantly increases current draw and shortens battery life from 7 days to as few as 3–4 days. If life is shorter than expected, reduce streaming time or carry spare batteries.
-
Switch to a rechargeable Phonak model for convenience
If you find frequent battery changes inconvenient, ask your audiologist about rechargeable Phonak models such as the Audeo Lumity R or Paradise R. These charge overnight in the Phonak Charger Case Go and last up to 24 hours per charge.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do Phonak rechargeable aids also give a 4-beep warning?
No. Rechargeable Phonak aids (models ending in -R) indicate low battery through the myPhonak app and through the charger case LED, not with beeps. The 4-beep signal is specific to the zinc-air battery-powered range.
How long does a size-312 Phonak battery last?
Under average use without streaming, a size-312 Phonak battery lasts around 5–7 days. With regular streaming via Bluetooth, expect 3–5 days. Severe hearing loss requires higher amplification, which draws more current and reduces life to the lower end of the range.
