Cannot Connect

ReSound Hearing Aid

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Cannot Connect in the ReSound app means the app cannot establish a Bluetooth link with your hearing aids. This is usually caused by Bluetooth being disabled, the aids being off or out of range, or a stale Bluetooth pairing that needs refreshing.

Affected Models

  • ReSound Nexia
  • ReSound ONE
  • ReSound OMNIA
  • ReSound LiNX Quattro
  • ReSound Key

Common Causes

  • Bluetooth turned off on the phone
  • Hearing aids are off, in the charger, or out of Bluetooth range
  • Phone has lost the Bluetooth pairing with the aids
  • Another device (tablet, old phone) is currently paired to the aids and taking the connection
  • ReSound app data is corrupted and needs a refresh

How to Fix It

  1. Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on your phone

Open Settings on your iPhone or Android phone and verify Bluetooth is switched on. The ReSound app will always show Cannot Connect if Bluetooth is off, regardless of aid battery level or proximity.

  2. Verify the hearing aids are on and nearby

The aids must be switched on (not in the charger and not in their storage case) and within about 10 metres of your phone. Open and close the battery door or remove the aids from the charger to ensure they are active.

  3. Close and reopen the ReSound app

Force-close the app completely (swipe it away in the app switcher), then relaunch it. This clears any stale connection state in the app without affecting the Bluetooth pairing on your phone.

  4. Check for another paired device taking the connection

ReSound aids pair with multiple devices but only stream to one at a time. If your old phone, tablet, or a family member's phone previously paired to the aids, the aids may be connected to that device instead. Turn off Bluetooth on other devices temporarily to free up the connection.

  5. Forget and re-pair the aids if the issue persists

Go to your phone Settings > Bluetooth, find the ReSound aids in the list, and tap Forget This Device. Then follow the ReSound app pairing guide to reconnect the aids from scratch. This resolves most persistent Cannot Connect errors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will forgetting the pairing change my hearing aid program settings?

No. Your hearing aid programs and settings are stored in the aids themselves and managed by your audiologist's fitting software. Unpairing from the app only removes the phone-to-aid Bluetooth connection — all your volume and program settings remain intact.

Why does ReSound Cannot Connect appear only in the morning?

This is usually caused by the phone's Bluetooth stack losing the connection overnight, often after phone updates or power-saving modes disconnecting background Bluetooth links. Closing and reopening the app in the morning typically restores the connection within a few seconds.
