Update Failed
ReSound Hearing Aid
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Update Failed in the ReSound Smart 3D or ReSound Nexia app means the firmware update process was interrupted before it could complete. The most common causes are Bluetooth dropping during the update, low battery on the aids, or the phone going to sleep mid-update.
Affected Models
- ReSound Nexia
- ReSound ONE
- ReSound OMNIA
- ReSound LiNX Quattro
- ReSound Key
Common Causes
- Bluetooth connection dropped during the update transfer
- Hearing aid battery too low to safely complete the firmware write
- Phone screen locked or app moved to background during the update
- ReSound app version outdated and incompatible with the new firmware
- Phone moved too far from aids during the update process
How to Fix It
-
Charge the hearing aids before retrying
Firmware updates require consistent power throughout the process. Place the aids in the charger for at least 1 hour before attempting the update again. Do not start an update if the battery indicator shows below 50%.
-
Keep the app open and the screen awake
Go to your phone Settings and temporarily disable Auto-Lock (iOS) or Screen Timeout (Android) before starting the update. The app must stay in the foreground throughout. Do not switch to other apps or take calls during the update.
-
Stay within 30 cm of the hearing aids
Place the phone on a flat surface next to the charger containing the aids. Bluetooth hearing aid updates use a short-range protocol and any interference or distance beyond about 30 cm can cause the transfer to fail.
-
Update the ReSound app first
Open the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) and check for a newer version of the ReSound app. An outdated app can be incompatible with the latest firmware. Install the app update, relaunch, and retry the hearing aid firmware update.
-
Restart the aids and retry
For rechargeable aids, open and close the charger lid to restart the aids. For battery models, open and close the battery door on each aid. Then reopen the ReSound app and attempt the firmware update again from the start.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a failed update damage my hearing aids?
Hearing aid firmware updates are designed to be safe to retry. If an update fails partway through, the aid reverts to its previous firmware version. Your aids will continue working normally — they simply won't have the new firmware until the update completes successfully.
How do I check which firmware version my ReSound aids are running?
Open the ReSound app, go to My ReSound > Hearing Aids, then tap on each aid. The firmware version is displayed in the device details. Your audiologist can also view and update firmware using the ReSound fitting software.
