Red LED
ReSound Hearing Aid
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
A red LED on the ReSound charger indicates a charging fault. The most common causes are hearing aids not seated fully in the cradle, dirty charging contacts, or a power supply issue. Reseating the aids and cleaning the contacts resolves most cases.
Affected Models
- ReSound Nexia
- ReSound ONE
- ReSound OMNIA
- ReSound LiNX Quattro
Common Causes
- Hearing aid not seated fully in the charger cradle
- Wax, moisture, or skin oils on the charging contacts of the aid or charger
- USB power source is not delivering adequate current
- Hearing aid has an internal battery fault requiring service
- Charger cable damaged or power adapter incompatible
How to Fix It
-
Reseat the hearing aids in the charger
Remove both aids and reinsert them carefully, ensuring the metal contacts on the aid align with the pins in the charger cradle. You should feel a light click or resistance when the aid is correctly positioned. The LED should switch from red to amber within a few seconds.
-
Clean the charging contacts
Use a soft dry cloth or the small cleaning brush that came with your aids to wipe the metal charging contacts on the bottom of each aid and the corresponding pins inside the charger. Wax and skin oils are the most common cause of charging faults.
-
Check the USB power source
The ReSound charger requires a stable 5V USB power supply. Plug the charger into a wall adapter rather than a laptop USB port or power strip that may switch off after a delay. Try a different USB-A adapter if the red LED persists.
-
Try a different USB cable
If the charger uses a detachable USB cable, swap it for a known-working cable. Damaged cables can cause intermittent charging faults. Inspect the cable for bent pins or physical damage near the connector.
-
Contact your audiologist if the red LED stays on
If reseating, cleaning, and changing the power source do not resolve the red LED, the hearing aid's internal rechargeable battery may have degraded or failed. Your audiologist can run diagnostics and replace the battery cell.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a red LED always a serious fault?
Not always. In most cases it is simply a seating or contact issue, which is easy to fix. A persistent red LED after cleaning and reseating is more likely to indicate a battery or charger hardware fault and should be assessed by your audiologist.
Can I leave the aids in the charger overnight if the LED is red?
No. A red LED means charging is not occurring correctly. Leaving the aids in an active fault state overnight will not resolve the problem and the aids will still be low on battery in the morning. Address the fault first, then charge overnight.
