Red LED
Signia Hearing Aid
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
A red LED on a Signia charging case indicates a charging fault — the case cannot charge one or both hearing aids correctly. The most common causes are dirty or misaligned contacts, an unstable power supply, or a hearing aid that is not seated fully in the case.
Affected Models
- Signia Pure
- Signia Styletto X
- Signia Active Pro
- Signia Motion X
Common Causes
- Hearing aid not seated correctly in the charging case slot
- Wax, moisture, or debris on the metal charging contacts of the aid or inside the case
- USB power source not providing stable 5V current
- Rechargeable battery in the hearing aid has degraded and needs replacement
- Charging case itself has a hardware fault
How to Fix It
-
Remove and reseat the hearing aids
Take the aids out of the case and reinsert them carefully, ensuring the charging contacts on each aid align with the pins in the case. For Signia Styletto X, the aids sit in a horizontal cradle — ensure the aid clicks gently into position. The LED should switch from red to amber or green if the contact is correct.
-
Clean the charging contacts
Using a dry soft cloth or the cleaning tool supplied with your aids, gently wipe the metal contacts on the bottom of each aid. Clean the contact pins inside the charging case slots as well. Wax and oils from skin build up on contacts over time and cause charging errors.
-
Switch to a different USB power adapter
Disconnect the Signia charging case from the current USB source and plug into a dedicated 5V wall adapter. Avoid using laptop USB ports or multi-port hubs that may not supply consistent current. Signia recommends the supplied adapter or a trusted 5V/1A equivalent.
-
Check the USB cable
Inspect the cable for any visible damage such as fraying, bending near the connector, or loose fit. Swap the cable for a known-working replacement and retry charging. A faulty cable can cause intermittent contact that triggers the red fault light.
-
Contact your audiologist if the red LED persists
If reseating, cleaning, and changing the power source do not resolve the red LED, the hearing aid's internal rechargeable battery may be at end of life (typically 4–5 years of daily use). Your Signia audiologist can test the battery capacity and replace the cell if needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Signia charging case red LED the same as the low battery indicator?
No. The red LED in the charging case specifically indicates a fault during charging — it means the case is trying but unable to charge properly. A low battery on the aids themselves is signalled by the 3-beep warning from the aids when you are wearing them, not by the case LED.
Can I use a wireless charging pad with the Signia Styletto X case?
The Signia Styletto X Charger supports Qi wireless charging on select variants — check the bottom of your case for the Qi logo. If Qi charging is supported, place the case on a compatible wireless charging pad. A red LED while using wireless charging may indicate misalignment — adjust the case position on the pad.
