Update Failed

Signia Hearing Aid

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Update Failed in the Signia App means the firmware installation on your hearing aids was interrupted before it could complete. The aids keep their previous firmware and continue working normally. Addressing the cause — usually low battery or a dropped Bluetooth connection — allows the update to be retried successfully.

Affected Models

  • Signia Pure
  • Signia Styletto X
  • Signia Silk
  • Signia Active Pro
  • Signia Insio

Common Causes

  • Bluetooth connection dropped during the firmware transfer
  • Hearing aid battery too low to safely complete the write process
  • Phone screen locked or Signia App moved to background during the update
  • Signia App version outdated and incompatible with the firmware being delivered
  • Phone placed too far from the hearing aids mid-update

How to Fix It

  1. Charge the hearing aids fully before retrying

Firmware updates require stable continuous power. Place the aids in the Signia charging case for at least 1 hour before retrying the update. The Signia App shows the battery level for each aid on the dashboard — aim for 80% or higher before starting.

  2. Keep the phone screen on throughout the update

Temporarily set your phone's screen timeout to its maximum or to Never before starting. On iOS: Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock > Never. On Android: Settings > Display > Screen Timeout. Restore to your normal setting after the update completes.

  3. Hold the phone within 30 cm of the aids

Place the phone on a flat surface directly next to the charging case or close to the aids if you are wearing them. The firmware transfer uses Bluetooth at short range, and moving away during the process is the most common cause of Update Failed.

  4. Update the Signia App before retrying

Check the App Store or Google Play for a Signia App update and install it. An older app version may be incompatible with the new hearing aid firmware package. After updating the app, restart it and retry the hearing aid update.

  5. Restart the hearing aids and try again

For rechargeable aids: open the lid of the charging case for 5 seconds, then close it to restart the aids. For battery models: open and close the battery door. Then reopen the Signia App — the firmware update notification should reappear and you can retry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my Signia hearing aids be damaged if the update fails halfway?

No. Signia builds a safety rollback into the firmware update process. If the update fails at any point, the hearing aids automatically revert to the previous stable firmware. Your aids will work normally until you successfully complete the update.

My audiologist said Signia will push an important update — what if I cannot do it from the app?

If the Signia App update consistently fails, your audiologist can apply the firmware directly using Connexx fitting software during your next appointment. This is a reliable alternative and also gives the audiologist an opportunity to check the hearing aid's overall performance.
