Wick Change Indicator

Aircare Humidifier

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

The wick change indicator light on an Aircare humidifier means the evaporative wick filter is due for replacement. Aircare wicks typically last 1–3 months depending on water hardness and usage. Replace the wick to restore full humidification output.

Affected Models

  • Aircare MA1201
  • Aircare EP9 800
  • Aircare 1043 Console
  • Aircare SPACE SAVER 831000
  • Aircare HD1409

Common Causes

  • Wick filter reached the end of its service life
  • Mineral deposits from hard water reducing wick absorbency and airflow
  • Indicator light triggered by usage hours rather than actual wick condition

How to Fix It

  1. Switch off and unplug the humidifier.

  2. Remove the water panel/wick.

On Aircare console models, open the front panel or remove the water distribution tray to access the wick filter (also called a water panel). It is a large, padded evaporative pad. Lift it straight out.

  3. Inspect the wick condition.

A wick that is hard, crusty, or heavily coated with white mineral scale is no longer absorbing water efficiently and should be replaced. A lightly scaled wick can sometimes be soaked in white vinegar solution to extend its life.

  4. Install a replacement wick.

Match the wick part number to your Aircare model. Common replacement wicks are the 1043, 1044, or 45-R series. Slide the new wick into place following the same orientation as the old one.

  5. Reset the wick change indicator.

On most Aircare models, the indicator resets by pressing and holding the wick reset button for 3 seconds after replacing the wick. The button is typically labelled 'WICK RESET' on the control panel.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I replace the Aircare wick?

Aircare recommends replacing the wick every 1–3 months depending on water hardness. In hard water areas, monthly replacement is common. Using Aircare Bacteriostatic Treatment (1970) in the water can extend wick life.

Can I clean and reuse an Aircare wick instead of replacing it?

Lightly scaled wicks can be soaked in a 50/50 vinegar-water solution for several hours, then rinsed thoroughly and allowed to dry. Heavily scaled or hardened wicks cannot be restored to full effectiveness and should be replaced.
