A2

Boneco Humidifier

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

A2 on a Boneco means mineral scale (limescale) from hard water has built up inside the humidifier and needs to be cleaned. Descale with a diluted white vinegar or Boneco descaler solution to clear A2 and restore full output.

Affected Models

  • Boneco H680
  • Boneco H300
  • Boneco H400
  • Boneco H700
  • Boneco Air-O-Swiss 7531

Common Causes

  • Mineral deposits from hard water accumulating on the transducer or evaporative surface
  • Infrequent cleaning allowing scale to build up over weeks of use
  • Using tap water with high calcium/magnesium content without demineralization cartridge

How to Fix It

  1. Switch off and unplug the humidifier.

    Never descale a running humidifier.

  2. Empty and remove the water tank.

Discard any remaining water in the tank and in the base.

  3. Fill the base with a descaling solution.

Use the Boneco descaler (A205 or equivalent) diluted as directed, or fill the base with a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water. Allow to soak for 30–60 minutes. The acid dissolves mineral deposits on the ultrasonic transducer or evaporative surface.

  4. Rinse thoroughly.

Empty the descaling solution and rinse the base with fresh water several times until no vinegar smell remains. Residual vinegar will be misted into the room air.

  5. Clean the tank.

Rinse the water tank with the same vinegar solution, swirl, and empty. Rinse with fresh water twice.

  6. Reassemble and restart.

Refill with fresh water and restart. A2 should clear once the unit detects the descaling is complete and the sensor area is clean.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I descale a Boneco humidifier?

In hard water areas, descale every 2–4 weeks. In soft water areas, monthly is usually sufficient. Using the Boneco demineralization cartridge or filling with filtered water significantly extends the time between descaling.

Can I use a commercial descaler instead of vinegar?

Boneco sells their own A205 descaler, which is the recommended option. White vinegar is an effective alternative. Avoid harsh chemical descalers not approved for humidifiers — they may leave residues that get misted into the air.
