P0

Electra Split AC

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

P0 on an Electra AC means the drain pump has detected a fault — either the pump itself has failed or the drainage path is blocked and water is backing up in the drain pan. This code prevents the indoor unit from overflowing water into the room. In most cases it is fixed by clearing a blocked drain line.

Affected Models

  • Electra Avante Inverter
  • Electra Classic Inverter
  • Electra Alpha Series
  • Electra Split AC (all inverter models)
  • Electra 1 Ton / 1.5 Ton / 2 Ton Inverter

Common Causes

  • Drain line (condensate pipe) blocked with algae, mould, or debris
  • Drain tray full — water has backed up to the float switch level
  • Drain pump motor has failed or seized
  • Drain pump float switch stuck or faulty, triggering P0 even when drain is clear
  • Drain pipe routed with an upward loop or incorrect slope preventing gravity drainage

How to Fix It

  1. Switch off the AC at the remote and at the circuit breaker.

Check the area below and around the indoor unit for any water dripping into the room.

  2. Locate and clear the drain line.

The drain pipe is the small plastic pipe (usually 16–20mm diameter) that exits the indoor unit and leads outside or to a drain point. Pour a cup of water slowly into the drain tray (accessible by removing the front cover) to check if it flows freely. If water does not drain, the pipe is blocked — use a wet/dry vacuum at the pipe exit point to suck out the blockage.

  3. Clean the drain tray.

The plastic tray below the evaporator coil can accumulate algae and slime that eventually blocks the outlet. Wipe the tray clean with a cloth and a mild bleach solution. Pouring a tablespoon of bleach into the drain tray once a month prevents algae buildup.

  4. Restore power and restart.

If the drain is clear and P0 was caused by a blocked pipe, the code should clear and the AC should resume normal operation.

  5. If P0 persists after clearing the drain, call a technician.

The drain pump motor or float switch may have failed and need replacement — these are low-cost parts but require opening the indoor unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I clean the Electra AC drain line?

Once per cooling season is a good baseline — ideally at the start of summer before you begin using the AC heavily. In humid climates where the AC runs for long periods, clean the drain every 2–3 months to prevent algae buildup.

Why is my Electra AC dripping water inside the room?

Water dripping inside the room means the drain line is blocked and the drain tray has overflowed. Switch the AC off immediately to prevent water damage to walls, ceilings, or electrical fittings. Clear the drain pipe before restarting.
