F2
Gree Split AC
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
F2 on a Gree AC means the indoor evaporator (coil) temperature sensor is shorted, open, or out of range. The AC cannot regulate cooling properly without this sensor. The unit may still run but with reduced efficiency or comfort. Sensor replacement is straightforward.
Affected Models
- Gree GWH09AAB
- Gree GWH12AAB
- Gree GWH18MD
- Gree Inverter Split AC
- Gree Cozy Series
Common Causes
- Failed evaporator sensor (NTC thermistor)
- Sensor connector loose at the indoor PCB
- Sensor wiring damaged or pinched
- Moisture intrusion at the sensor position
- Indoor PCB input fault (rare)
How to Fix It
-
Power off and remove the indoor unit cover.
Switch off at the breaker. Open the indoor unit front panel — most Gree models have clip-on covers that lift away. Locate the indoor PCB on the right side.
-
Locate the evaporator sensor.
The sensor is a small probe clipped to the evaporator coil tubing, with a thin two-wire cable running back to the PCB. The cable is usually marked with coloured tape.
-
Inspect the connector.
Disconnect the sensor at the PCB and look for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture. Clean with electrical contact cleaner. Reconnect firmly.
-
Test sensor resistance.
With sensor disconnected, measure resistance with a multimeter. NTC sensors typically read 5,000–10,000 ohms at 25°C. Out-of-range or open circuit confirms sensor failure.
-
Replace the sensor if confirmed faulty.
Gree evaporator sensors cost USD 15–35. Replacement involves disconnecting at PCB, unclipping from the coil, fitting new, and clipping back. 15-minute job. Total typical cost USD 80–150 fitted by a technician.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my Gree AC still cool with F2?
Many Gree models continue to cool but use a default temperature value, which means less precise cooling. Some models stop the compressor for safety. Check whether your unit is producing cool air — if yes, you can use it short-term while waiting for repair.
What is the difference between Gree F1 and F2?
F1 is the indoor room temperature sensor (the sensor reading the air the AC is cooling). F2 is the evaporator coil sensor (reading the temperature of the cold coil). Both are indoor sensors but read different temperatures. Same fix approach, different sensor location.
