E1

Lloyd Split AC

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

E1 on a Lloyd AC means the indoor room temperature sensor (ambient sensor) has detected a circuit fault — open, short, or out of range. The AC cannot read room temperature. Many models default to a fixed value and continue running but with reduced comfort. Sensor replacement is straightforward.

Affected Models

  • Lloyd 1.5 Ton 5 Star Inverter
  • Lloyd LS18I32WBEL
  • Lloyd LS19A5SH
  • Lloyd LS12B53XJ
  • Lloyd Stella Series

Common Causes

  • Failed indoor ambient temperature sensor (NTC thermistor)
  • Sensor connector loose at the indoor PCB
  • Sensor wiring damaged or pinched
  • Moisture or dust ingress at the sensor pins
  • Indoor PCB input fault (rare)

How to Fix It

  1. Power off at the breaker for 5 minutes.

A power-cycle clears soft sensor reads. Restore power and observe whether E1 returns immediately.

  2. Open the indoor unit cover.

With breaker OFF, lift the indoor unit front panel. Locate the indoor PCB on the right side. The ambient sensor is a small probe near the air intake.

  3. Inspect the connector.

Disconnect the sensor at the PCB and look for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture. Clean with electrical contact cleaner. Reconnect firmly.

  4. Test sensor resistance.

With sensor disconnected, measure resistance with a multimeter. NTC sensors typically read 5,000–10,000 ohms at 25°C. Out-of-range or open circuit confirms sensor failure.

  5. Replace the sensor if confirmed faulty.

Lloyd sensors cost USD 15–30. Replacement involves disconnecting at PCB, removing from clip near the air intake, fitting new, and reconnecting. 15-minute job. Service total typically USD 80–150 fitted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my Lloyd AC keep cooling with E1?

On most Lloyd models, the AC continues to cool with a default temperature value when the ambient sensor fails. The room may overcool or undercool — the temperature setpoint becomes inaccurate. Useful as a short-term workaround until repair.

What is the difference between Lloyd E1 and E3?

E1 is the indoor ambient (room) temperature sensor fault. E3 is typically the indoor coil sensor fault. Both are sensor faults but at different positions in the indoor unit. Same fix approach — sensor cleaning or replacement.
