E7

Tadiran Split Air Conditioner

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Tadiran Error E7 indicates a fault with one of the fan motors — either the indoor evaporator fan or the outdoor condenser fan. The unit shuts down to prevent overheating of the compressor or heat exchanger.

Affected Models

  • Tadiran Inverter Series
  • Tadiran Alpha
  • Tadiran Superior
  • Tadiran Elite

Common Causes

  • Indoor evaporator fan motor has failed or seized
  • Outdoor condenser fan motor has failed
  • Fan motor capacitor has failed
  • Fan blade is obstructed by debris or ice
  • Fan motor wiring has a fault

How to Fix It

  1. Check for obvious obstructions

Look at the outdoor unit's fan (visible through the grille on the top or side). Check for leaves, debris, or ice blocking the fan blades. Do not put your hand inside the unit — use a torch to look.

  2. Reset the unit

Turn off at the breaker for 5 minutes and restore. If E7 clears and the fans spin normally on restart, a temporary fault may have triggered the code.

  3. Listen when starting

If you hear a humming sound but no fan rotation, the motor or its capacitor has likely failed. If there is complete silence from the fan, the motor winding may be open-circuited.

  4. Call a technician

Fan motor and capacitor replacement must be done by a qualified HVAC technician. Never operate the unit with a non-functioning fan — the compressor will overheat within minutes.

When to Call a Professional

Yes — fan motor replacement requires an HVAC technician.

Tadiran Error E7 — Fan Motor Has Stopped

Both the indoor and outdoor units of a split air conditioner rely on fans to move air across their heat exchangers. Without those fans:

  • Indoors: the evaporator coil cannot absorb heat from your room
  • Outdoors: the condenser coil cannot release that heat into the outside air

In either case, the system cannot function, and the compressor would overheat if it continued running. Tadiran detects the stopped fan and shuts down immediately, displaying E7.

Common Cause: The Fan Capacitor

A capacitor is a small component that provides the starting torque for the fan motor. Capacitors are inexpensive ($5–$15) and fail more often than the motor itself. An experienced technician will test the capacitor first — if that is the fault, the repair is quick and cheap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still use the air conditioner briefly with E7 showing?

No — do not operate the unit with E7 active. Without a functioning fan, the compressor will overheat rapidly, potentially causing permanent compressor damage, which is far more expensive to repair than a fan motor.

Is E7 the indoor fan or the outdoor fan?

Depending on your Tadiran model, E7 can refer to either. A technician will identify which fan has triggered the fault during the service visit.
