E4
AEG Induction Hob
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
E4 on an AEG induction hob means a temperature sensor has failed or is reading incorrectly. The hob shuts down to prevent overheating. This usually requires a service call to replace the temperature sensor.
Affected Models
- AEG IKB64401FB
- AEG IKB64301FB
- AEG IAE84821FB
- AEG HK854400FB
- AEG Series 9000
Common Causes
- Temperature sensor component failure (NTC thermistor fault)
- Sensor wiring damaged from a previous overheating event
- Liquid spilled into the hob reaching the sensor
- Control board fault affecting sensor readings
How to Fix It
-
Switch off and allow the hob to cool completely.
Turn off at the cooker switch and wait 20–30 minutes. On rare occasions, a temporary sensor fault from extreme heat clears after full cooling.
-
Check for liquid ingress.
Inspect the hob surface and the join between the glass and frame for any liquid that may have entered the hob. Boil-overs that seep under the glass can reach sensor components and cause E4.
-
Attempt a power cycle.
After full cooling, restore power. If E4 clears and the hob functions normally, monitor for recurrence. If E4 appears immediately or returns during normal use, the sensor requires professional replacement.
-
Book a service call.
E4 that persists after cooling is not user-serviceable. Contact AEG service or a qualified appliance repairer. Provide the model number (on the rating plate, usually on the underside of the hob or inside the frame).
When to Call a Professional
E4 is not resolvable by the user — the temperature sensor or control board requires replacement by a qualified appliance technician.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is AEG E4 covered under warranty?
E4 from a manufacturing defect in the temperature sensor is covered under AEG's 2-year warranty (longer in some markets). E4 caused by liquid damage from spills is generally not covered. Contact AEG with proof of purchase.
Can I use the other zones while E4 is showing on one zone?
It depends on the model. On some AEG hobs, E4 disables only the affected zone; on others it shuts down the full appliance. If the remaining zones function normally, you can continue using them, but book a service as soon as possible.
