E1

NuWave Induction Cooktop

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

E1 on a NuWave means the cooktop cannot detect an induction-compatible pan. Test your cookware with a magnet — if it sticks to the pan base, the cookware is compatible. If it does not stick, the pan will not work on the NuWave.

Affected Models

  • NuWave PIC Gold
  • NuWave PIC Flex
  • NuWave PIC Pro
  • NuWave Mosaic Induction
  • NuWave PIC Titanium

Common Causes

  • Pan base is not magnetic — copper, aluminium, glass, or non-magnetic stainless steel
  • Pan base is smaller than the minimum required diameter
  • Pan placed off-centre on the cooking zone
  • Pan base is warped and not making flat contact with the surface

How to Fix It

  1. Test cookware compatibility with a magnet.

Hold a small magnet to the flat base of the pan. If it holds firmly, the pan is induction-compatible. If it does not hold or slides off, the pan cannot be used on a NuWave induction cooktop.

  2. Centre the pan on the cooktop.

Place the pan directly in the centre of the NuWave cooking surface, covering as much of the surface as possible. The pan base should be at least 4.5 inches (approximately 11 cm) in diameter.

  3. Check for a warped base.

A pan that rocks on the surface makes poor contact with the induction field and may not be detected reliably. Test on a flat counter — the base should sit completely flat without rocking.

  4. Ensure the cooking surface is clean.

A layer of spilled food or residue between the pan and the cooktop surface can interfere with detection. Clean the surface with a damp cloth and allow to dry before testing again.

Frequently Asked Questions

What pots and pans work with a NuWave induction cooktop?

Cast iron, carbon steel, and magnetic stainless steel pans all work with NuWave. NuWave also sells their own compatible cookware. The easiest check is the magnet test — a strong magnet sticking firmly to the base confirms compatibility.

My NuWave shows E1 with a pan I have used before — why?

If a previously working pan now shows E1, check that the pan base has not developed a warp from high heat. A warped base loses contact with the surface. Also check that the pan is centred correctly and the cooktop surface is clean.
