E2

Omron Blood Pressure Monitor

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

E2 means the monitor could not detect your pulse at all. The cuff is probably too loose, applied incorrectly, or the tube is disconnected.

Affected Models

  • Omron M2
  • Omron M3
  • Omron M6
  • Omron M7 Intelli IT
  • Omron HEM-7120
  • Omron HEM-7156

Common Causes

  • Cuff too loose — not sealing around the arm
  • Cuff applied over thick clothing
  • Air tube disconnected from the monitor
  • Cuff placed on the wrong arm (some models are wrist-specific)
  • Very cold hands reducing circulation

How to Fix It

  1. Check the air tube is fully connected to the monitor port.

Push it in firmly until it stops. A half-connected tube causes the cuff to not inflate properly.

  2. Apply the cuff directly on bare skin — not over clothing.

Roll up your sleeve fully. Even a thin shirt sleeve can block the reading.

  3. Tighten the cuff so two fingers fit underneath.

If it's any looser, the cuff cannot squeeze your arm enough to detect blood flow.

  4. Warm your hands and arm if they feel cold.

Cold reduces blood flow near the surface. Sit in a warm room for a few minutes.

  5. Try the other arm.

Some people have stronger readings on one side. Always note which arm you use and use the same one consistently.

Frequently Asked Questions

I get E2 but I can feel my pulse — why?

Your pulse is real, but the cuff cannot sense it well enough. The most common reasons are a loose cuff, clothing in the way, or a disconnected tube. Check all three before assuming the monitor is broken.
