E-6

Accu-Chek Blood Glucose Meter

Severity: Critical

What Does This Error Mean?

E-6 signals an internal hardware fault in the Accu-Chek meter. Unlike E-1 through E-3, which are caused by strips or environmental conditions, E-6 is a meter-level error that cannot be resolved by changing strips or adjusting settings. The meter may need to be replaced.

How to Fix It

  1. Remove and reinsert the batteries

Open the battery compartment and remove the batteries. Wait 30 seconds, then reinsert them. This performs a full hardware reset and clears E-6 in some cases where the error was caused by a power fluctuation rather than a genuine hardware fault.

  2. Clean the strip port

Use a dry cotton bud to gently clean inside the test strip port. Corrosion or conductive debris on the port contacts can trigger an internal fault code. Do not use water or alcohol.

  3. Test with a new strip after the reset

After reinserting the batteries and cleaning the port, insert a new test strip and observe whether E-6 reappears. If the meter now displays the blood drop prompt normally, the issue was resolved by the reset.

  4. Contact Accu-Chek for a replacement meter

If E-6 reappears consistently after a battery reset and port cleaning, the meter has an internal fault. Contact Roche Accu-Chek customer support — Accu-Chek meters come with a warranty and replacement meters are usually provided free of charge within the warranty period.
