E-7

OneTouch Blood Glucose Meter

Severity: Critical

What Does This Error Mean?

E-7 is an internal system or hardware error on OneTouch meters. It is not caused by a strip or sample issue — it indicates a fault within the meter itself. A battery reset resolves E-7 in many cases, but if the error persists the meter needs to be replaced.

Affected Models

  • OneTouch Ultra 2
  • OneTouch Verio
  • OneTouch Verio Flex

How to Fix It

  1. Remove the battery and wait 30 seconds

Open the battery compartment on the back of the meter. Remove the battery (CR2032 coin cell on most Verio models, or two AAA batteries on Ultra 2). Wait 30 seconds to fully discharge residual power, then reinsert the battery.

  2. Reset date and time if prompted

After the battery reset, the meter will ask you to confirm or reset the date and time. Complete this step — an incorrect date/time can cause the meter to display system errors on subsequent tests.

  3. Test with a new strip

After the reset, insert a fresh strip and perform a control solution test to confirm the meter is working correctly before using it for a blood glucose reading.

  4. Contact OneTouch support if E-7 returns

If E-7 appears again after a full battery reset, the meter's internal processor or memory is faulty. Contact LifeScan OneTouch support — the meter qualifies for a free warranty replacement in most regions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to test my blood glucose while E-7 is showing?

No. E-7 means the meter cannot guarantee the accuracy of its measurements. Do not use the meter for dosing decisions while E-7 is active. Use a backup meter or seek a reading from a pharmacy until the issue is resolved.
