5E

Samsung Microwave

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Samsung microwave 5E error means the humidity sensor has detected a fault or has failed. Auto-cook and sensor-cook programmes are disabled — manual time cooking still works while you arrange the repair.

Affected Models

  • Samsung Over-the-Range Microwave
  • Samsung Countertop Microwave
  • Samsung ME Series
  • Samsung MS Series

Common Causes

  • Failed humidity sensor
  • Sensor connector loose or corroded
  • Moisture damage inside the cavity from spills
  • Control board fault misreading the sensor signal

How to Fix It

  1. Perform a power reset.

Unplug the microwave for 2 minutes, then plug it back in. A temporary sensor misread from steam or condensation sometimes clears after a full power cycle.

  2. Clean the inside of the microwave.

Food splatter and moisture inside the cavity can coat the humidity sensor and cause false readings. Wipe the interior thoroughly, including the roof and side walls, and run the microwave empty for 30 seconds to dry out any residual moisture.

  3. Use manual time cooking as a workaround.

With 5E active, sensor-based auto-cook programs are disabled but standard timed cooking still works. Select a manual cook time and power level to continue using the microwave while arranging repair.

  4. Have the humidity sensor replaced.

If 5E persists after cleaning and resetting, the humidity sensor has failed. This repair involves accessing high-voltage components inside the cabinet — have a qualified technician perform it.

When to Call a Professional

The humidity sensor is mounted inside the microwave cavity wall. Accessing it requires opening the cabinet — this involves high-voltage components. Unless you are experienced with appliance repair, have a technician replace the sensor.
