Samsung Microwave
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Samsung microwave SE error means a key on the control panel touchpad is stuck or shorted and sending a continuous signal. A power reset sometimes clears it temporarily — if SE returns, the touchpad membrane needs replacing.
Affected Models
- Samsung Over-the-Range Microwave
- Samsung Countertop Microwave
- Samsung ME Series
- Samsung MS Series
Common Causes
- Worn or degraded touchpad membrane with a failed key contact
- Moisture or steam condensing under the touchpad surface
- Grease from cooking seeping under the control panel
- Physical damage to the touchpad from impact or heat
How to Fix It
-
Perform a power reset.
Unplug the microwave from the wall for 60 seconds, then plug it back in. If SE was triggered by steam or a temporary moisture event, a full power cycle often clears it.
-
Clean the touchpad surface.
Wipe the control panel with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry completely. Grease, food residue, or steam condensation under the edge of the touchpad can cause a key to register as permanently pressed.
-
Check for steam exposure.
SE is common on over-the-range Samsung microwaves where steam from boiling pots rises directly onto the control panel. If SE appears during or after heavy stovetop cooking, allow the panel to cool and dry completely before resetting.
-
Replace the touchpad membrane.
If SE returns after every reset, the membrane has failed internally. Order the replacement membrane for your model number (found on the label inside the door frame). It clips onto the panel and connects via ribbon cable.
When to Call a Professional
Touchpad membrane replacement is straightforward on most Samsung microwaves — the panel unclips and connects via ribbon cable. A technician can also replace it quickly if you prefer not to disassemble the unit.
