A BMW ABS warning light means the system is disabled due to a detected fault. Wheel speed sensors are the most common cause — dirty, damaged, or with the wrong air gap. Conventional brakes still work.

Common Causes
- Dirty or damaged wheel speed sensor
- Damaged ABS sensor harness
- Air gap between sensor and tone wheel out of spec
- Failed ABS module (rare)
- Low battery voltage during start, causing a false fault store
How to Fix It

Clean both wheel speed sensors.
Locate the front and rear ABS sensors near the brake discs. Clean accumulated dirt, brake dust, and mud from the sensor face and the toothed tone ring on the wheel. This often clears the warning.

Check sensor wire condition.
Inspect the sensor wires for chafing or pinching, especially near the front fender and at any zip-tie points. Damaged wires cause intermittent ABS faults.

Verify air gap (after wheel removal).
If a wheel was recently off, the sensor may be at the wrong distance from the tone ring. Loosen the sensor mounting bolt, slide the sensor against the tone ring (it has a built-in spacer), and tighten.

Reset using GS-911 or a BMW dealer.
Some BMW models retain the ABS warning until a diagnostic tool clears the stored code. A GS-911 (a popular third-party BMW Motorrad scan tool) or BMW dealer can clear codes after repair.
