Blink Code 14
Yamaha Motorcycle
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Blink code 14 on a Yamaha motorcycle means the intake pressure sensor hose has a fault — the sensor is reading values that do not match expected vacuum changes during throttle operation. Inspect the vacuum hose for cracks, kinks, or disconnection.
Affected Models
- Yamaha YZF-R1
- Yamaha YZF-R6
- Yamaha MT-07
- Yamaha MT-09
- Yamaha FZ-09
Common Causes
- Cracked or split vacuum hose to the intake pressure sensor
- Hose disconnected at the throttle body or sensor
- Hose pinched between airbox and frame
- Failed pressure sensor giving values that look like a hose issue
- Aftermarket airbox modification disrupting sensor sampling
How to Fix It
-
Locate the vacuum hose.
Trace the small rubber hose from the intake air pressure sensor (typically on the airbox) to its other end on the throttle body or intake manifold. The hose is usually 4–6 mm internal diameter.
-
Inspect the hose for cracks and splits.
Bend the hose gently along its length and look for surface cracks. Aged rubber hoses harden and split, especially near the connection points. Even a hairline crack causes blink 14.
-
Confirm both ends are firmly connected.
Push each connection home until it bottoms out on the spigot. A loose connection lets unmetered air past the sensor.
-
Check for pinch points.
Look at where the hose passes through the frame, fairings, or near other components. A pinched hose blocks vacuum to the sensor and causes blink 14.
-
Replace the hose if damaged.
Use vacuum-rated rubber hose of the correct internal diameter — typically USD 5 per metre at any auto store. Cut to length, push onto the spigots, and the new hose should restore normal operation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did blink code 14 appear after I cleaned my air filter?
If blink 14 appeared after removing or refitting the airbox or air filter, you may have dislodged or pinched the vacuum hose. Reinstall the airbox more carefully, ensuring the hose routes freely without kinks.
Can I just unplug the sensor to clear blink 14?
Disconnecting the sensor will set blink 13 instead — the ECU will revert to default maps and run, but with poor throttle response. Fix the actual hose issue rather than disabling the sensor.
