Red LED / Solid Red Light
Eero Mesh WiFi Router
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Eero solid red LED means the device has power but cannot connect to the internet (on the gateway) or cannot connect to the mesh (on a satellite node). For the gateway: restart the modem first. For a satellite node: move it closer to the gateway or restart it.
Affected Models
- Eero 6
- Eero 6+
- Eero Pro 6
- Eero Pro 6E
- Eero Max 7
- Eero (3rd gen)
Common Causes
- Gateway red light: ISP connection is down or the modem is not providing internet
- Node red light: satellite node is out of range of the gateway or another node
- Node red light: node needs a restart after a power interruption
- Gateway red light: Eero account issue or provisioning error
- Firmware update failed — device stuck in an error state
How to Fix It
-
Determine if it is the gateway or a satellite node.
The Eero gateway is the unit directly connected to the modem via ethernet cable. Satellite nodes are the wireless-only units placed around the home. A red light on the gateway means no internet — check the modem. A red light on a satellite node means it cannot connect to the mesh — move it closer to the gateway.
-
Gateway red light: check and restart the modem.
Confirm the modem's internet/WAN light is solid (not off or red). Unplug the modem for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait for the modem to fully sync — typically 1–2 minutes. Once the modem's internet light is solid, restart the Eero gateway by unplugging it for 10 seconds.
-
Node red light: move it closer to the gateway.
A satellite node showing a red LED cannot reach the mesh network. Temporarily place the node in the same room as the gateway to confirm it can connect at close range. If it connects and the LED turns white, the original placement is out of range — find an intermediate location between the gateway and the desired final location.
-
Restart the device showing the red LED.
Unplug the Eero device showing the red light from power, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in. The LED will go through a startup sequence — white breathing indicates it is trying to reconnect. Wait up to 3 minutes for the LED to turn solid white (connected) before concluding a problem remains.
-
Factory reset as a last resort.
If the red LED persists after restarting and repositioning, hold the reset button on the bottom of the Eero for 7 seconds until the LED turns red, then release. This resets the device to factory defaults — it will need to be re-added to the network via the Eero app. If a freshly reset device still shows red after being re-added, the device may have a hardware fault — contact Amazon Eero support.
When to Call a Professional
If the gateway red light persists after a confirmed working modem connection and a factory reset, contact Amazon Eero support — there may be an account provisioning issue.
