F31
Frigidaire Oven
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
F31 means the meat probe socket sees an open circuit when the oven thinks one should be plugged in.
It's not a serious fault — usually a probe that's been removed mid-cycle, a damaged probe, or a stuck connection in the socket.
Unplug the probe completely and the error normally clears, then check the probe and socket for damage.
Affected Models
- Frigidaire FGEW3066UD
- Frigidaire FFEW3025PS
- Frigidaire Gallery FGEH3047VD
- Frigidaire Professional FPEH3077RF
- Frigidaire FGGH3047VF
Common Causes
- Meat probe partially inserted but not making full contact
- Probe wire damaged — broken internally near the connector
- Probe socket contaminated by spilled liquid or food residue
- Probe was removed mid-cycle without cancelling the function
- Internal probe connector failure on the control board (rare)
How to Fix It
-
Pull the meat probe out completely.
If you've been using the probe and got F31, full removal often clears it within seconds.
The oven detects no probe and stops looking for one.
If F31 stays after removal, the issue is in the socket or the wiring inside the oven. -
Inspect the probe wire.
Look for kinks, breaks, or melted insulation along the cable.
The probe wire is fragile near the metal sleeve where it enters the cooking cavity — that's the most common failure point.
A visibly damaged probe needs replacing, and Frigidaire-compatible probes are $20–$40. -
Clean the probe socket inside the cavity.
Cooking spatter and food residue can build up inside the socket and bridge the contacts.
Use a soft brush and a barely-damp cloth — gently — to clean the socket.
Don't poke metal into it; that's how the contacts get bent. -
Cut power for 5 minutes if F31 persists.
A power-cycle after cleaning often resolves stubborn F31 events.
If F31 returns immediately on restart with no probe inserted, the fault is in the socket wiring or the control board, and that's a service repair.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need the meat probe to bake normally?
No.
The probe is only used when you press Probe or Meat Probe on the control panel.
Standard baking, broiling, and convection don't need it at all.
If F31 is stopping you from cooking, fully removing the probe and pressing Cancel almost always unlocks the oven.
Can I just stop using the probe to avoid F31?
Yes — and that's a perfectly reasonable workaround if the probe socket is damaged and replacement isn't worth it.
An external thermometer (instant-read or wireless) does the same job without involving the oven's electronics.
Some probes you can disconnect at the back panel and the oven won't try to use them.
