F2
GE Oven
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
F2 means the control board sees a button stuck in the pressed position.
Cut power at the breaker for 5 minutes — most F2 events from a momentary glitch clear with that.
If F2 returns, look for a button that doesn't bounce back when pressed, or a panel that's been splashed.
Persistent F2 after a power-cycle and a clean keypad means the touchpad assembly needs replacing.
Affected Models
- GE Profile JKP90
- GE Cafe CT9050
- GE JBP35
- GE Spacemaker JTP35
- GE Adora JT3000
Common Causes
- A button physically stuck — debris, dried liquid, or worn membrane
- Moisture inside the touchpad ribbon connector
- Worn touchpad after years of use (typical past 8 years)
- Damaged ribbon cable between touchpad and the control board
- Failed control board (less common — usually after a power surge)
How to Fix It
-
Kill power at the breaker for 5 minutes.
Don't just turn the oven off — flip the breaker.
That fully de-energises the control board and lets it reboot cleanly.
Plenty of F2 events are transient and don't come back after a real power-cycle. -
Press every button after restoring power.
Each one should click and beep.
A button that doesn't respond, or beeps continuously, is your stuck one.
Wipe around it with a barely-damp cloth — sometimes that's all it takes. -
Let the panel dry if you've been cleaning.
Spray cleaners that drift past the seal or steam from a hot wipe-down can creep into the touchpad ribbon.
Leave the oven powered off with the door open for a few hours — humidity-driven F2 often clears once things dry out. -
Book service for touchpad replacement if it persists.
Touchpad assemblies for GE ovens run $80–$180 for the part.
Labour adds another $100–$150.
For ovens past 10 years, weigh that against a new oven — replacement parts get harder to source as models age out.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the oven run with F2 showing?
No.
F2 locks out cooking because the control board can't trust which button is being pressed.
The display stays on F2 until the underlying touchpad issue is fixed.
What's the difference between F2 and F3 on a GE oven?
Both involve the temperature side, but F2 is keypad-related (a button shorted) while F3 is the oven temperature sensor reading high.
F2 is usually a simpler, cheaper fix — keypad cleaning or replacement.
F3 typically means the temperature probe needs replacing.
