LG Oven F9 Error — Door Lock Failure

What Does This Error Mean?

LG oven F9 error means the door lock motor failed to complete its locking or unlocking cycle. This usually occurs during or after the self-clean cycle. A power reset sometimes frees a stuck lock mechanism.

How to Fix It

Perform a power reset.

Turn off the oven at the circuit breaker for 5 minutes, then restore power. A door lock that stopped mid-travel sometimes completes its cycle when power is restored.
Wait for the oven to cool completely.

If F9 appeared during self-clean, the door lock may be thermally expanded and stuck. Allow the oven to cool for 30–60 minutes — the lock mechanism sometimes releases as the metal contracts.
Gently try the door while resetting.

With the oven at room temperature, restore power at the breaker. As soon as power returns, gently pull the door handle while the lock motor attempts to cycle. Do not force the door — this can break the lock mechanism.
Replace the door lock assembly.

If the motor clicks but the door remains locked, the lock motor or latch has physically failed. Door lock assemblies for LG ranges cost $30–$80 and are typically held by two or three screws.

When to Call a Professional

The door lock assembly is behind the control panel or top section of the range. If the lock motor clicks but the door will not open or lock, a technician can replace the lock assembly without damaging the oven door.
