E-15

Samsung Oven

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

E-15 indicates the clock IC (the timer chip on the control board) has failed.
The oven can't track time accurately, which affects cooking timers, delayed start, and self-clean.
Power-cycle once.
If E-15 persists, the control board needs replacement.
This is a 200–400 USD repair on most Samsung ovens.

Affected Models

  • Samsung NE series electric range
  • Samsung wall oven
  • Samsung double wall oven
  • Samsung Flex Duo range

Common Causes

  • Clock chip on the control board failed
  • Power surge damaged the clock IC
  • Backup battery on the board exhausted (some models)
  • Solder joint cracked on the clock chip
  • Moisture damage on the board

How to Fix It

  1. Power-cycle the oven.

Switch the breaker off for 10 minutes.
This lets the control board fully reset and the clock chip to be reinitialized.
    Switch back on.
If the clock displays correctly and accepts time programming, you're back to normal.

  2. Try setting the clock.

If E-15 doesn't appear on power-on but the clock won't set or holds incorrect time, the chip is degrading.
You may be able to use the oven for cooking but with limited timer functions.
Plan for repair before timer features become unusable.

  3. Test cooking functions.

Try setting the oven to 350°F bake.
    Does it heat normally?
If yes, cooking still works even with E-15 — only timer features are affected.
Use the oven cautiously, watching cook times by external clock until repair.

  4. Don't open the oven yourself.

The control board lives behind the front trim panel.
Replacing it involves working with the high-voltage power supply.
Service-tech work — Samsung-authorized centers do this routinely.

  5. Schedule Samsung service.

    Provide model and serial numbers.
Control board replacement is the typical fix.
    Out-of-warranty: 250–400 USD total.
    Free under warranty.
For older ovens (10+ years), weigh repair against replacement of the entire range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my food cook correctly with E-15?

Yes, mostly — the heating itself works, just the clock-based features (timer, delayed start, self-clean cycle) may not work reliably.
Use a kitchen timer or your phone for cook times until repaired.
Don't use delayed start — the timing won't be accurate.

Is E-15 a common Samsung issue?

It's not uncommon for Samsung ovens past the 5-year mark.
Power surges and component aging are the typical causes.
If your oven is mid-life and out of warranty, repair makes sense.
For very old ovens, replacement may be more economical.
