E-27
Samsung Oven
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
E-27 is the opposite of E-08 — the temperature sensor circuit reads as shorted, like the wire is touching ground somewhere.
The sensor reports an impossibly high temperature, so the oven shuts down to prevent overheating.
Cut power for 10 minutes; if E-27 returns, the sensor or its wiring has shorted internally and needs replacing.
Affected Models
- Samsung NE63T8511SS
- Samsung NV51K7770SS
- Samsung NX60T8511SS
- Samsung NE58F9710WS
- Samsung NV75K5571RS
Common Causes
- Sensor shorted internally — usually after a thermal event
- Wire chafed against the cabinet, shorting to ground
- Connector contaminated with conductive debris (often after a spill)
- Damaged sensor pins from a previous service
- Control board input fault (rare)
How to Fix It
-
Cut power at the breaker for 10 minutes.
Standard cold reset.
Some E-27 events from a brief sensor glitch clear with a proper power-cycle.
If E-27 returns immediately on power-up, the short is real and needs repair. -
Look inside the oven for liquid spills.
A boil-over that ran down the back wall and reached the sensor connector is a common cause of E-27.
Wipe the cavity thoroughly with a barely-damp cloth.
Leave the oven unpowered with the door open for a few hours to let any moisture in the connector evaporate. -
Check the harness for chafing.
Pull the oven from the wall, remove the rear panel, and trace the sensor wire.
Look for spots where the insulation has rubbed against a metal edge or screw — that's a classic short-to-ground.
Wrap any chafed area with electrical tape or replace the section if the conductor is exposed. -
Book service for sensor replacement if needed.
If the wiring checks out, the sensor itself is shorted internally.
Replacement is a 30-minute job once the back panel is off.
Test the new sensor with a multimeter before reassembling — healthy reads about 1080 ohms at room temperature.
When to Call a Professional
E-27 is service-only.
The fix is the same as E-08 — sensor replacement — but the diagnosis differs.
An appliance technician will measure the sensor resistance to confirm it's shorted before replacing.
Typical cost $150–$250 fitted including the sensor.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between E-08 and E-27?
E-08 is open circuit — wiring broken, sensor failed open, no signal at all.
E-27 is shorted circuit — wiring touching ground, sensor failed closed, signal stuck at maximum.
Both end up needing a new sensor, but the diagnostic test is different and the cause sometimes differs (E-27 is more often spill-related, E-08 more often physical damage).
Can I cook with E-27?
No.
The oven shuts down to protect the heating element from running uncontrolled when the temperature sensor can't be trusted.
Some Samsung models display E-27 and refuse to start any cycle until the fault is cleared.
