tE

Samsung Oven

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Samsung oven tE error means the oven temperature sensor (RTD probe) has failed or become disconnected. The oven cannot regulate temperature safely and shuts down — replace the sensor to resolve tE.

Affected Models

  • Samsung Electric Range
  • Samsung Slide-In Range
  • Samsung NE Series
  • Samsung NX Series

Common Causes

  • Failed oven temperature sensor (RTD probe)
  • Sensor wiring burned or disconnected inside the oven cavity
  • Sensor probe physically damaged by contact with bakeware
  • Control board fault misreading the sensor signal

How to Fix It

  1. Perform a power reset.

Turn off the oven at the circuit breaker for 2 minutes, then restore power. If the tE error was triggered by a brief voltage spike, a reset may clear it.

  2. Locate the temperature sensor.

Open the oven door and look at the upper rear wall of the oven cavity. The sensor is a thin metal probe (about 10 cm / 4 inches long) that extends from the back wall. It has two wires connecting through the back of the oven.

  3. Test the sensor with a multimeter.

At room temperature (21°C / 70°F) the oven temperature sensor should read approximately 1,000–1,100 ohms. An open circuit, zero reading, or reading far outside this range confirms the sensor has failed.

  4. Check the sensor wiring.

Inspect the wires connecting the sensor probe to the control board for burns, pinching, or loose connectors. A burned wire from contact with the oven rack is a common cause of tE on Samsung ovens.

  5. Replace the temperature sensor.

Oven temperature sensors cost $15–$40 for most Samsung models. Remove the mounting screws, pull the probe out, disconnect the wire connector (accessible behind the back panel), and install the new sensor.

When to Call a Professional

Oven temperature sensor replacement is a simple repair on most Samsung ovens — the probe mounts to the back wall with one or two screws and the wiring reaches through to the back panel. Most homeowners can complete this themselves.
