App Control Not Working
Traeger Pellet Grill
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Traeger app control fails when the grill is offline or the app's cached connection state is stale.
App shows 'connected' but commands don't reach the grill = WiFi at grill is weak or grill needs reboot.
Verify grill shows online in app, restart grill via the app's reboot function, and confirm WiFi signal is strong at the grill location.

Common Causes

- App cached old auth token
- Traeger cloud service brief outage
- Grill firmware out of date
- Phone on different network than expected
How to Fix It
-
Check grill status in app.
Open Traeger app.
Grill should show 'Connected' with current temperature.
If shows 'Offline' or 'Connecting', grill isn't really online.
Walk to grill and check controller display for WiFi indicator. -
Force-quit app, reopen.
Close Traeger app completely (swipe up on iOS, or recent apps menu on Android).
Reopen.
App refreshes connection — sometimes resolves stale cache issues. -
Reboot grill via app.
Settings → Reboot Grill.
Or pull power cord for 30 seconds, plug back in.
Grill rejoins WiFi on boot.
Connection state cleared. -
Test WiFi at grill location.
Stand near grill with phone connected to same WiFi.
Run speed test or check signal bars.
Below 2 bars = unreliable.
Add WiFi extender for backyard coverage if needed. -
Update firmware.
App → grill → Settings → Firmware Update.
Apply pending updates.
WiFire connectivity improvements ship in firmware regularly. -
Re-pair grill if persistent.
App → Settings → Remove Grill.
Then Add Grill, walk through pairing again.
Last resort but clears stuck account/device association.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the grill keep cooking if app loses connection?
Yes — controller and probes work entirely on the grill itself.
WiFire only sends status to the app.
If app drops mid-brisket, the grill keeps holding 225°F until you stop it manually.
Don't panic about app issues during cooks.
