E05
Zodiac Pool System
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Jandy E05 error means the pool heater attempted to ignite but did not detect a flame within the required time. The most common causes are no gas supply, a dirty flame sensor, low gas pressure, or blocked combustion air intake. Check the gas supply valve is open and there is adequate gas pressure before calling a technician.
Affected Models
- Jandy JXi Pool Heater
- Jandy LXi Pool Heater
- Jandy Pro Series Pool Heater
Common Causes
- Gas supply valve is closed or has low pressure
- Flame sensor is dirty and not detecting the pilot flame
- Igniter has worn out and is not producing a spark
- Combustion air intake or flue is blocked
- Gas supply has been interrupted (empty tank on propane, outage on natural gas)
How to Fix It
-
Check that the gas supply valve at the heater is fully open (handle parallel to the pipe). Also check any inline shutoff valves between the meter and the heater.
This is the first check before any other diagnosis. A closed or partially closed valve is the most common user-fixable cause of E05.
-
If you are on propane, check the tank level. A nearly empty propane tank has insufficient pressure to light the heater even if some gas remains.
Refill or replace the propane tank and allow a few minutes for line pressure to stabilize before attempting to fire the heater again.
-
Check the combustion air intake (the vent on the side of the heater). Clear any debris, leaves, or insect nests blocking the intake or flue outlet.
Blocked combustion air causes E05 because the burner cannot sustain ignition without adequate airflow.
-
If the above steps do not resolve E05, the flame sensor or igniter requires service. Do not attempt to service the gas components yourself — contact a licensed pool or gas technician.
Gas appliance repair requires licensed technicians in most jurisdictions. Always turn off gas at the main valve before any service work.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many times will the Jandy heater retry ignition before locking out?
The Jandy JXi and LXi heaters attempt ignition 3 times before locking out and displaying E05. After a lockout, wait 10 minutes, then press the Reset button on the heater display to clear the error and allow the heater to try again. If it fails 3 more times, leave it off and investigate the cause before attempting another reset.
