Service Light / Heater Fault

Zodiac / Jandy Pool Equipment

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

The Service light on a Jandy JXi or LXi heater means a fault was detected. Most Service lights are accompanied by a fault code on the display — note the code before resetting. Common triggers include insufficient flow (E00), ignition failure (E05), and high-limit trips (E06).

Affected Models

  • Jandy JXi Gas Heater
  • Jandy LXi Gas Heater
  • Jandy Hi-E2 Heater
  • Jandy Pool Heater — all residential models

Common Causes

  • Insufficient water flow triggering the flow switch (E00 / Low Flow)
  • Ignition failure after 3 attempts — gas supply or igniter fault (E05)
  • High-limit switch tripped by overheating or sensor fault (E06)
  • Dirty or blocked heat exchanger reducing combustion efficiency
  • Combustion air intake blocked by debris or animal nest

How to Fix It

  1. Note the fault code on the heater display.

Jandy JXi and LXi heaters display a specific error code when the Service light turns on. Common codes: E00 (low flow), E05 (ignition failure), E06 (high-limit), E08 (water sensor). Look up the specific code in the Jandy heater manual for the exact cause and recommended action.

  2. Check water flow to the heater.

The most common Service light trigger is low water flow through the heat exchanger. Confirm the pump is running at full speed, the filter is not clogged, and all valves between the pump and heater are fully open. Backwash or clean the filter if filter pressure is elevated.

  3. Check the gas supply.

For E05 (ignition failure), verify the gas shut-off valve near the heater is fully open. If other gas appliances in the home also have low pressure, contact the gas utility. For propane systems, check the tank level.

  4. Clear the fault and attempt restart.

After addressing the underlying cause, press the Reset or Mode button on the heater control panel to clear the fault. For some models, the fault clears automatically once conditions return to normal. If the Service light returns within the same heating cycle, the fault is ongoing.

  5. Inspect the air intake for obstructions.

Jandy heaters draw combustion air through vents on the side or top of the unit. Birds, leaves, or debris blocking the intake can cause combustion errors and Service light faults. Inspect the intake and exhaust vents and clear any blockages. Do not operate the heater with a blocked exhaust.

When to Call a Professional

Gas heater faults involving combustion, ignition, or heat exchanger issues should be diagnosed by a licensed pool/HVAC technician — do not attempt to bypass safety limits on a gas appliance.
