What Does This Error Mean?

E1 on a Midea portable AC means the ambient room temperature sensor has detected an open or short circuit. The unit cannot read room temperature. Cooling may continue with a default value but accuracy is reduced. Sensor replacement clears E1.

  2. Move to a different outlet.

    Outlet voltage issues can occasionally cause sensor read problems. Try a different room outlet to rule out power-related E1.

  3. Check whether cooling still works.

    Some Midea models continue to cool with a default temperature value when the ambient sensor fails. If the unit produces cool air, you can use it short-term while waiting for repair.

  4. Inspect the air intake.

    The ambient sensor is usually behind the air intake grille. Confirm the grille is not blocked by furniture, curtains, or dust. Restricted airflow can cause sensor reading issues that look like E1.

  5. Book service for sensor replacement.

    Persistent E1 needs sensor replacement. Midea sensors cost USD 15–35 for the part, plus USD 100–150 labour. Total typical USD 120–200 fitted.
