Low Battery
Advice UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)
Severity: CriticalWhat Does This Error Mean?
The Low Battery warning fires when the UPS battery drops to around 10–15% capacity during a power cut. You have approximately 1–3 minutes of runtime remaining. Save all open files and shut down your computer immediately — do not wait for power to return.

Common Causes
- Mains power has been off long enough to drain the battery to the low threshold
- Battery capacity reduced by age — an old battery reaches low threshold faster than a new one
- High load drawing down the battery more quickly than expected
- Battery self-test recently ran and partially discharged the battery before a real power cut
How to Fix It
-
Save all open documents immediately and begin an orderly shutdown of your computer. Do not continue working — you have very little time before the UPS cuts output.
Most UPS management software (if installed) can automate this shutdown when the low battery threshold is reached. Configure automatic shutdown in the UPS software so future power cuts are handled without manual intervention.
-
If mains power returns before shutdown, the low battery warning will clear and the UPS will resume charging. Allow several hours of charging before relying on full backup time again.
A battery discharged to the low level needs 4–8 hours of charging to return to full capacity.
-
If low battery warnings occur quickly (within 1–2 minutes of a power cut) and the battery is more than 3 years old, the battery has degraded and should be replaced.
Short runtime is the clearest sign of a failing UPS battery. A healthy battery for a standard home UPS should provide at least 5–10 minutes of runtime under normal computer load.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I silence the low battery beeping?
The continuous beeping during low battery is intentional and cannot be permanently silenced on most Advice UPS models — it is an urgent alert. The beeping stops when mains power is restored or the UPS shuts down.
