Replace Battery

CyberPower UPS

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

The Replace Battery indicator on a CyberPower UPS means the sealed lead-acid battery inside can no longer hold a sufficient charge for reliable backup power. The UPS will continue to condition power and protect against surges but will not supply battery power during a mains outage. CyberPower sells model-specific replacement batteries; third-party batteries matching the voltage and Ah rating also work.

Affected Models

  • CyberPower CP series (CP825AVR, CP1000AVRLCD)
  • CyberPower BR series (BR700ELCD, BR1000ELCD)
  • CyberPower OL series (online double-conversion)
  • CyberPower EC series (Essential)

Common Causes

  • Battery end of service life — typically 3–5 years for sealed lead-acid batteries
  • Battery deeply discharged during a long power outage and unable to recover
  • Prolonged operation in a hot environment accelerating cell degradation
  • Battery cell failure — internal short or electrolyte dry-out

How to Fix It

  1. Find your UPS model number on the label on the bottom or back of the unit. Visit the CyberPower website or search for your model to identify the correct replacement battery part number.

CyberPower batteries are model-specific. The battery label inside the UPS also shows the voltage (typically 12V) and capacity in Ah — match both when ordering a replacement.

  2. Power down and unplug all connected equipment and disconnect the UPS from the wall socket. Open the battery access panel (usually on the front or bottom).

The battery compartment is typically secured by a single screw or a plastic latch. Some CyberPower models allow battery replacement without full shutdown — check your model's manual.

  3. Disconnect the battery connector, slide out the old battery, slide in the new one, and reconnect the connector. Close the compartment and reconnect to mains power.

CyberPower batteries typically use a single multi-pin connector rather than individual spade terminals, making replacement straightforward. Allow 8–12 hours of charging before the Replace Battery indicator clears.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I replace a CyberPower UPS battery?

CyberPower recommends replacing the battery every 3–5 years or when the Replace Battery indicator illuminates. If the UPS is in a warm room or data closet, plan for replacement closer to the 3-year mark.
