Er5

Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Er5 means the pressure sensor in the lid is reading bad data — the controller can't trust it.
The unit refuses to pressure cook because pressure tracking is the safety mechanism for high-pressure operation.
Power-cycle, check the lid sensor area for moisture or food debris.
If Er5 persists, the lid assembly is the issue — Ninja support typically replaces under warranty.

Affected Models

  • Ninja Foodi OP300
  • Ninja Foodi Deluxe XL
  • Ninja Foodi Smart XL
  • Ninja Foodi 11-in-1

Common Causes

  • Moisture or food debris on the pressure sensor port
  • Sensor wire damaged inside the lid
  • Lid assembly out of spec (after physical damage)
  • Sensor itself failed
  • Controller's pressure sensor input damaged

How to Fix It

  1. Cancel and unplug.

    Press Stop.
    Unplug the unit.
Wait 10 minutes for residual pressure to release and capacitors to discharge.

  2. Inspect the lid sensor area.

Look at the inside of the lid — find the small holes or ports near the silicone gasket.
One of those is the pressure sensor port.
    Wipe with a dry cloth.
If you see food residue or grease in there, that's likely your Er5 — clean carefully with a cotton swab.

  3. Check the sealing ring.

Pull the silicone sealing ring out of the lid (gently — it stretches).
Inspect for cracks, tears, or warping.
A damaged ring causes pressure issues that can show as Er5 even though the sensor itself is fine.
    Replacement rings are 10–15 USD.

  4. Power-cycle and try again.

    Plug the unit back in.
    Try a Pressure Cook program.
If Er5 returns within minutes of starting, the cause is internal to the lid — proceed to warranty support.

  5. Contact Ninja support.

Open a support ticket at SharkNinja with your model number and serial number.
If under warranty (typically 1 year), they'll send a replacement lid or a replacement unit.
Out of warranty, replacement lids are 30–60 USD direct from Ninja.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Foodi still work without pressure cooking?

Yes — Er5 typically only blocks pressure cooking modes.
Air fry, slow cook, sauté, and broil functions don't use the pressure sensor and continue working.
Use those until pressure cooking is repaired.
Don't try to pressure cook with Er5 active — the pressure feedback is what makes it safe.

How can I tell if it's the sensor or the controller?

Without diagnostic equipment, you can't.
Pattern matters though: if Er5 only appears with pressure programs and never with air fry or sauté, the sensor or pressure circuit is the issue.
If Er5 appears with multiple programs, the controller is failing.
Note the pattern when contacting support.
