Er6

Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Er6 is a lid sensor fault — the unit can't detect that the right lid is on (some Foodi models have two interchangeable lids: pressure cook and air fry/crisp).
Make sure you're using the lid that matches your selected program.
Pressure programs need the pressure lid; crisping programs need the crisping lid.
If you have the right lid on but Er6 still shows, the sensor magnet may have moved.

Affected Models

  • Ninja Foodi OP300
  • Ninja Foodi Deluxe XL
  • Ninja Foodi Smart XL
  • Ninja Foodi 11-in-1

Common Causes

  • Wrong lid for the selected program
  • Lid not fully closed or seated
  • Sensor magnet on the lid loose or moved
  • Sensor reed switch in the base failed
  • Food residue blocking the magnet from making contact

How to Fix It

  1. Identify which lid your program needs.

Pressure Cook, Steam, Slow Cook — these typically need the pressure cooking lid (the one with the steam release valve).
Air Crisp, Air Fry, Bake, Broil — these need the crisping lid (the one attached to the unit by a hinge on most models).
    Check your model's manual.

  2. Confirm the lid is fully closed.

For the pressure lid: rotate clockwise until you hear a click.
For the crisping lid: lower it onto the pot and listen for the magnetic catch.
If it doesn't engage, look for food crumbs or residue blocking proper closure.

  3. Inspect the lid magnet.

On most Ninja Foodi crisping lids, a small magnet is built into the lid edge.
It activates a sensor in the base when closed.
Run your finger along the lid edge — should feel slight magnetic pull near the sensor area.
If the magnet has fallen out, that's your Er6.

  4. Wipe the sensor area in the base.

Look at the base of the unit where the lid contacts.
Wipe clean of any food residue or grease.
Especially check the area opposite the lid magnet — that's where the reed switch sits.
    Buildup here causes intermittent Er6.

  5. Power-cycle and test.

Unplug for 5 minutes, plug back in.
Try the program again with the correct lid.
If Er6 persists despite using the right lid and clean sensor area, the magnet or reed switch has failed — contact Ninja support.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I only have one lid?

Some Ninja Foodi models only come with one multi-purpose lid.
If yours does, Er6 means either the lid isn't seating properly or the sensor has failed.
Try thoroughly cleaning the lid edge and the base sensor area.
If still failing, contact Ninja support.

Can I run programs without the crisping lid?

No — air crisp programs require the crisping lid because they use the heating element built into it.
Slow cook and pressure cook only need the pressure lid.
If your crisping lid is broken, you can still pressure cook; you just can't air crisp until it's repaired or replaced.
