Filter Warning

Optoma Projector

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

'Filter Warning' means the Optoma's filter has reached its scheduled maintenance hours.
Power off and let cool, remove the filter (panel on side or back), vacuum or rinse it, and reinstall.
For washable foam filters: rinse, squeeze dry, air dry 24 hours.
Reset the filter timer in the menu.
Don't ignore — clogged filters cause overheating and shorten lamp life dramatically.

Affected Models

  • Optoma HD series
  • Optoma UHD series
  • Optoma EH series
  • Optoma S series
  • Optoma X series

Common Causes

  • Filter timer reached scheduled interval
  • Heavy-use environment accumulating dust quickly
  • Pet hair pulled into filter intake
  • Filter past service life (replacement needed)
  • Filter slot blocked externally

How to Fix It

  1. Power off and unplug.

Turn the projector off via remote.
Wait for cooling cycle (1-2 minutes).
    Unplug from wall.
Wait additional 15 minutes for internal components to cool before opening the filter compartment.

  2. Locate the filter.

Most Optoma projectors have a filter on the side or back.
Look for a small panel with vent grilles.
    Slide or unclip to remove.
The filter is a foam pad or pleated cartridge inside.

  3. Clean the filter.

Vacuum dust with a soft brush attachment.
For washable foam filters: rinse under cool water, squeeze gently to remove water, air dry 24 hours.
Don't reinstall a wet filter — moisture in the projector damages electronics.

  4. Replace if heavily damaged.

If the filter has tears, holes, or remains discolored after cleaning, replace.
    Genuine Optoma filters: 15-30 USD.
Match part number for your model.
Generic filters fit and work fine for typical use.

  5. Reset the filter timer.

    Reinstall in correct orientation.
    Close the access panel.
    Power on.
Menu → Setup → Filter Mode → Reset → Yes.
The maintenance counter resets to zero.
Confirm zero before considering the maintenance complete.
