Lamp Door Switch Open
Optoma Projector
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
'Lamp Door Switch Open' means the safety interlock detected the lamp access door isn't fully closed.
The projector won't power on the lamp until the interlock is satisfied.
Locate the lamp access door, close it firmly, and tighten any retaining screws.
If the door is closed but the warning persists, the interlock switch has failed (small mechanical part — service-tech repair, 30-60 USD).
Affected Models
- Optoma HD series
- Optoma UHD series
- Optoma EH series
- Optoma S series
- Optoma X series
Common Causes
- Lamp door not fully closed after recent service
- Retaining screw loose allowing slight gap
- Interlock switch stuck in 'open' position
- Door warped from heat preventing flush close
- Switch contacts dirty or corroded
How to Fix It
-
Locate the lamp door.
Look at the bottom or side of the projector for a small panel.
Usually marked or has visible screws.
Refer to your Optoma manual if not obvious.
The door covers the lamp module. -
Close the door firmly.
Push the door closed.
Make sure it sits flush with the projector body.
Tighten the retaining screw(s) firmly (finger-tight, don't overtighten).
The interlock switch engages when the door is fully closed. -
Verify the interlock switch.
If the warning persists with the door closed, look at the interlock area.
Sometimes a small mechanical switch is visible.
Press it manually to confirm it clicks.
If stuck open, gently exercise it — don't force. -
Inspect the door for warping.
Heat from the lamp can warp the door slightly over years.
If it doesn't sit flush against the body, the interlock won't engage.
Slight warping can sometimes be addressed by tightening screws more carefully.
Severe warping needs door replacement (50-100 USD). -
Schedule service for switch replacement.
If the door is properly closed and switch appears damaged, service tech replacement is needed.
The interlock switch is a small mechanical part — 30-60 USD parts plus 30 minutes labor.
Optoma-authorized service centers can do this routinely.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the lamp door interlock so important?
Projector lamps run at extreme pressure (mercury vapor at 100+ atmospheres).
If a lamp fails while the door is open, glass shards and mercury vapor could escape.
The interlock prevents the lamp from running unless the door is sealed.
Don't try to bypass — it's there for genuine safety reasons.
Will the projector display anything with this error?
The projector can power on (menus, settings) but won't project an image.
The lamp interlock physically prevents the lamp from receiving power.
You'll see the warning message on the menu screen.
Until the interlock is satisfied, the lamp stays off — by design.
