ER 67

LG Refrigerator

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

ER 67 is the door open sensor — the small magnetic switch that tells the fridge whether a door is open or closed.
It's reading inconsistently or stuck in one state.
Most often the door magnet has come loose or the sensor area has buildup.
Wipe the door's magnet area, ensure the door closes flush, and reset.
Clear five minutes later in most cases.

Affected Models

  • LG InstaView
  • LG French door
  • LG side-by-side
  • LG smart Wi-Fi refrigerator

Common Causes

  • Door magnet loose or moved
  • Door sensor (reed switch) failed
  • Door not closing flush — gasket issue
  • Sensor wire damaged where it routes through the hinge
  • Control board sensor input damaged

How to Fix It

  1. Confirm all doors close flush.

Push each door closed and watch the gasket.
Should make full contact with the cabinet edge with no visible gap.
If a gap exists, the gasket is worn or the hinge needs adjustment.
A door not closing flush is the simplest cause of ER 67.

  2. Locate the door magnet.

On most LG fridges, the door has a small magnet on the inside edge that aligns with a sensor in the cabinet.
Run your finger along the door's inside edge near the top — you should feel a slight bump where the magnet is.
If it's missing or loose, ER 67 is explained.

  3. Clean the magnet area.

Wipe the door magnet and the matching cabinet sensor area with a damp cloth.
Dust, grease, or dried spills can interfere with magnetic sensing.
Don't use sharp tools — these are sensitive electronic components.

  4. Check the door gasket.

Slide a piece of paper between the gasket and cabinet — does it pull out with resistance, or fall out easily?
    Resistance means a good seal.
No resistance means the gasket needs replacement.
This is owner-serviceable; replacement gaskets are 50–100 USD.

  5. Power-cycle and test.

    Unplug for 5 minutes.
    Plug back in.
Open and close each door deliberately and listen for the door open chime.
Should chime when each door is open, stop when closed.
If the chime is inconsistent, the sensor itself is failing — call for service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will ER 67 affect cooling?

Mostly no — ER 67 is more of an annoyance code.
But if the door is genuinely partly open and ER 67 is correct, then yes, the fridge will warm up because the cold air leaks out.
Make sure all doors are fully shut before assuming it's a sensor fault.

Why does ER 67 only show in summer?

Door gaskets shrink slightly in cold rooms and expand slightly in warm rooms.
If your gasket is marginal, it may seal fine in winter but lose contact in summer when the kitchen is warmer.
If ER 67 is seasonal, the gasket is the cause — replace before next summer.
