88 88

Samsung Refrigerator

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

88 88 on a Samsung fridge display usually means the unit has entered Demo (shop display) mode, or the display initialised after a power cut. Exit Demo mode using the button combination for your model and allow cooling to resume.

How to Fix It

  1. Check if the fridge is cooling. If both compartments are at room temperature despite running for several hours, Demo mode is almost certainly active.

  2. To exit Demo mode on most Samsung models: hold Energy Saver + Freezer at the same time for 5-10 seconds. The display should chime and revert to normal temperature readings.

  3. On models with a Power Freeze button: hold Fridge + Power Freeze simultaneously for 5-10 seconds.

  4. If the 88 88 display appeared after a power cut and the fridge is cooling normally, it is simply the display running its initialisation routine. Wait 1-2 minutes for it to settle, or unplug for 30 seconds and reconnect.

  5. If 88 88 persists after trying the button combination and the fridge is not cooling, the main display board or control board may have failed. Contact Samsung support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Samsung fridge show 88 88 after a power cut?

Some Samsung models run a display test during startup that shows all segments (88 88) for a few seconds. If it stays permanently, a reset is needed.

My fridge shows 88 88 and is not cold — is my food safe?

If it has been in Demo mode for more than 4 hours, refrigerated food in the danger zone (above 4 degrees C) should be discarded. Exit Demo mode immediately and allow 2-3 hours for the fridge to reach safe temperatures.

How does a Samsung fridge get into Demo mode by accident?

Holding certain button combinations during setup or cleaning, or a child pressing the display buttons, can activate Demo mode. It is also sometimes activated in transit during delivery.
