41E

Samsung Refrigerator

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

41E on a Samsung fridge means the ice maker function has detected a fault — typically the icemaker temperature sensor or the harvest motor. The fridge cools normally; only ice production is affected. Defrost the icemaker and check the sensor connection.

Affected Models

  • Samsung RF28R7351SR
  • Samsung RF23M8090SR
  • Samsung RF263BEAESR
  • Samsung RS27T5200SR
  • Samsung RF28T5001SR

Common Causes

  • Frost build-up jamming the icemaker harvest motor
  • Failed icemaker temperature sensor
  • Loose sensor harness connector
  • Failed icemaker module (rare — usually after 8+ years)

How to Fix It

  1. Empty the ice bin.

Remove all ice from the bin. Sometimes 41E follows a clump of ice that has fused around the icemaker rake — clearing it manually can release the harvest mechanism.

  2. Switch the icemaker off, then on.

Use the front-panel control to switch the icemaker off, wait 1 minute, then switch back on. Many transient 41E events clear on a fresh start.

  3. Defrost the icemaker compartment.

If 41E returns, switch the icemaker off and unplug the fridge for 6 hours with the icemaker compartment door open (or freezer door if it shares the freezer space). Wipe out melted water and restart.

  4. Inspect the icemaker harness.

Some Samsung icemakers can be unclipped from the side wall by squeezing the release tabs. Check the harness connector at the back is fully seated. Reseating a loose connector clears 41E in 30% of cases.

  5. Replace the icemaker module.

Samsung icemaker assemblies (typical part DA97-15217D or similar) cost USD 100–200 and are user-replaceable on most models — a 30-minute job with a Phillips screwdriver. For older fridges, full assembly replacement is more reliable than component-level repair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my Samsung fridge still cool food with 41E showing?

Yes — 41E only affects ice production. The fridge and freezer cooling continue normally. The display alerts you that ice is not being made; the rest of the appliance is unaffected.

Why does 41E come back even after I replace the icemaker?

If 41E returns after a fresh icemaker, the cause is usually upstream — either the harness has been damaged during installation, or the freezer's defrost system is poor and creating frost faster than the icemaker can handle. Check defrost system performance.
